Eligibility Requirements
Enrolment in a CRICOS Course
You must hold a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from an Australian education provider registered under the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
Genuine Student Criterion
From 23 November 2024, applicants must satisfy the Genuine Student (GS) criterion, demonstrating that their primary purpose in coming to Australia is to undertake the enrolled course of study.
English Language Proficiency
You must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency through an accepted test such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Cambridge C1 Advanced. Minimum scores vary by course and institution.
Financial Capacity
You must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, living costs (approximately AUD 29,710 per year for a student as at 2025), travel, and any dependants accompanying you.
Health and Character Requirements
You must meet Australian health requirements, which may involve a medical examination. You must also be of good character, which is assessed through police clearances and statutory declarations.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
You must hold OSHC for the duration of your visa. OSHC is a health insurance product that covers the cost of medical and hospital care while you are in Australia.
